Building Process
At Forty West Builders, our primary goal is to make the process of building your new custom home not only enjoyable but also easy to understand. In this section, you will find a step by step guide to each step of the home selection and building process and approximately how long you can expect those steps to take. Please keep in mind that every project is unique and therefore the time estimate can vary based on the size of home as well as other factors.
We know that our ability to ensure a successful and stress-free homebuilding experience for our customers is directly related to the amount of customer referrals and repeat business we experience. That is the lifeblood of our business and we work tirelessly to earn it.

Planning Stage (30-45 Days) Architectural planning, engineering, permitting, initial scheduling and customer color/finish selections.
Site Work (3-5 days) Lot staked, trees and brush removed, excavation, haul off of excess dirt, if necessary
Foundation (14-17 days) Footings poured, foundation walls poured, waterproofing of foundation, foundation backfilled, rough plumbing installed (below basement floor), basement floor and garage floors poured, sump pit installed.
Framing 14-21 Days Rough framing of exterior shell, interior walls framed, exterior trim and windows installed, framing inspection completed and customer framing walk conducted to address electrical needs and desires.
Mechanical 14-20 Days HVAC ductwork and vents constructed, rough plumbing and drain lines installed, rough electric wiring completed and audio/video/security pre-wire installation.
Drywall 10-17 Days Insualtion installed in walls and vaults, drywall hung and finished, floors scraped and home cleaned out, walls and ceilings primed and inspected.
Exterior Finishing Siding, stone and brick preparation and install. Includes foam caulking and sealing exterior penetrations.
Trim and Flooring 10-14 Days Trim constructed, hardwood floors laid, tile installed, paint interior and exterior, kitchen installed.
Pre-Finish 7-10 Days Plumbing fixtures installed, electric finished and lighting fixtures hung, HVAC system completed, audio system completed, appliances installed, door and cabinet hardware installed.
Final Finish 4-7 Days Final grading, landscaping and lawn installed. Carpeting completed, windows scraped and cleaned, entire home cleaned, paint touch-up.
Pre-Delivery Orientation 1-2 Days On-site home orientation conducted with project superintendent. Customer questions addressed and preparations are made for final delivery.
Delivery 1 Day Review and explanation of the Home Warranty, final completion of any outstanding paperwork and formal delivery of keys.
